Our History

1885

What stands today as the Lovelady Church of Christ originated with pioneer Christians in 1885 gathering in private homes. In October 1891, the elders were deeded a lot by the New York and Texas Land Company that a building would later be constructed upon.

1900s

By 1910, many Christian families had moved into Lovelady from nearby congregations and a brick meeting house was built around 1940. In 1954, the Prairie Point congregation merged with Lovelady.

Soon, educational rooms, a preacher’s study, and air conditioning were added in the early 1960s, and in 1983, a large fellowship hall was built as well.

Present Day

In 2008, the old building was torn down in place of our current-day building.

As of today, the Lovelady Church of Christ still stands strong as God’s group of New Testament Christians assembling in Lovelady, Texas, and Lord willing, will continue to stand for generations to come.

Our Beliefs

Lovelady Church of Christ mission, Church of Christ purpose

This is not a single statement of faith, but rather an overview of what we believe. The entire New Testament is our one and only standard and the place from which we derive our faith, as does the Church of Christ as a whole.

  • He is one being, though there are three distinct members of the Godhead (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19). God is all-knowing (Heb. 4:13), all-powerful (Col. 1:16), and present everywhere (Ps. 139:7; Prov. 15:3). He is the Creator of all things (Gen 1:1).

  • The Bible is inspired of God, containing everything we need to live godly lives, lacking nothing (2 Tim. 3:16, 17; 2 Pet. 1:3), and by it we will be judged (John 12:48).

  • To be saved, one must hear the gospel (Rom. 10:17), believe that Jesus is the Son of God (John 8:24), repent of your sins (a change of mind resulting in a change of action, as a result of godly sorrow) (2 Cor. 7:10), confess with the mouth that Jesus is the Son of God (Rom. 10:9, 10), and be fully immersed in water to have one’s sins washed away, which adds one to the church by the Lord (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38, 47). Lastly, one must continue to follow God in obedience until death in order to receive eternal life (Rev. 2:10).

Our Mission

Lovelady Church of Christ beliefs, Church of Christ doctrine, Church of Christ salvation beliefs, Church of Christ beliefs

Our goal as the Lovelady Church of Christ is to please and glorify God in everything we do (1 Cor. 10:31); not only is this our desire, but it is also our purpose in life (Eccl. 12:13). We believe it is necessary to have God's approval for what we believe and teach (Col. 3:17).

We will continue to boldly preach the full truth of God’s Word in love (Eph. 4:15; 1 Cor. 9:16), and seek to teach the lost (Mark 16:15). We want all people to become New Testament Christians so they can experience the hope, love, and comfort God has placed within His church and in His church alone.

This is our mission.
